Just yesterday we were driving to his violin lesson, as usual in a hurry, when I told my Giulio (he's ten now) "we need to bolus" (he was in the 200's). His hand went to the pump. After a while he tells me, deliberately: "I checked the numbers and bolused. 0.80 units." "Did you?" "Yes." Pause. "I did not ask you to confirm." (He knows he has to, always did). There he was, looking at me, anxious but proud, waiting. "0.80 is fine." So this is how it begins, I thought.

Aren't they amazing?Francesco P.https://www.blogger.com/profile/17380379869475064833noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6177432865376147686.post-61480351584222388022018-02-07T09:22:37.583-05:002018-02-07T09:22:37.583-05:00I love you guys. I am in awe of Joe and know that someday Isaac will be there, too. At 9 years old we are still needing a lot of help, he just had a horrible virus and the reminder of how different it is for those without type 1 d is so evident during illness. Anyhow, I am returning to work full time in the fall...for the first time EVER and I am so nervous. It feels like another step towards the right direction in independence.
Just wanted to pop on and say thanks for sharing your little tidbits of life with an incredible boy living with type 1 :) Sarahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03210820513382353417noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6177432865376147686.post-57829183045160487302017-07-03T11:46:31.178-04:002017-07-03T11:46:31.178-04:00Hi Francesco! I have been following your blog since his diagnosis (it will be 7 years in December) and finally decided it was time to say hi. Actually, your page was the first I found when I looked for blogs of other parents of T1's. Your Joe is just a few years ahead of my son, and so I have been always projecting your experiences into our future, to have an idea of what to expect next. This is just to say that it's been a great help, and still is. Your hope, and confidence, became mine as well. Thanks a lot.

P.S.: We do have a "woodchuck"! It is called a "frog" (though it does not resemble a frog at all, at least not at the moment) for reasons that it's too complicated to explain here.Francesco P.https://www.blogger.com/profile/17380379869475064833noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6177432865376147686.post-64614885611805846092017-06-28T18:19:51.871-04:002017-06-28T18:19:51.871-04:00Ha! There will be enough time for that as an adult. Now is when adults should be helping to carry the burden. That being said, I just wanted to throw out there an idea. I'm not sure if it would work for Joe or not. As an adult, if I walked away from my tablet or CGM or phone or anything else, it would probably be stolen rather than confiscated. In the past I've had to replace expensive items that I "lost" while treating lows. I ended up finding a way to teather my phone to my belt loop. I wonder if there's a way to attach a teather or leash to the chromebook that could then be clipped on to Joe's pants or backpack or something. Most laptops have a way to secure a security cable, and maybe a lanyard could be attached there? It might not be the right solution but I just thought I'd throw it out there. Trying to help him come up with a way to circumvent diabetes causing him to lose it.Rachel M.noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6177432865376147686.post-6624686802071695032017-01-20T22:30:32.700-05:002017-01-20T22:30:32.700-05:00I am so mad at the chromebook confiscator!!
