DESPITE Diabetes Monday: The Pictures Say It All

On the Monday's in which I am hurting for "material", I am going to post a picture, a video, or story about Joe (or his family) doing something DESPITE the presence of diabetes in his life/our lives. My hope is that these little "snippets" will provide hope and inspire the families of newly diagnosed children.

This past summer Joe learned to mow the lawn. His determination and will and drive is all that I see in these pictures. The pump, the CGM, the medical ID bracelet blend and meld into the periphery.

A day-in-the-life of growing up with diabetes.

It always makes me catch my breath when I see our kids with all their "kit" on show. When I post pics of Frank and he's right up there in front of the camera he seems enormous. But he and beautiful Joe are so small that when I see the reality of their size and reflect on the magnitude of T1 I catch my breath and well up. And Bloody Nora, Reyna, he is a champion. I didn't mean to be mawkish, I loved these pictures; his determination and his first gas-powered vehicle?! Hugs to you and the family.

Wow, so little compared to that big mower, yet so strong and determined.

What a great guy! It reminds me of their life later on, when it just is.

I'm not sure I would enjoy that chore at all, but I think it's awesome that Joe does!

Bean has been asking to learn how to do things lately...so need to let go of the control and let her do stuff like dishes (although I don't know how she's going to put things away because she can't REACH any of the cabinets!) :)

Wish I could teach our older boy to do this willingly, LOL. Must be nice to have willing help. At his age, they actually think this is fun, LOL... I'm sure Joe is a great help to you which is wonderful. I notice the Tallygear belt, which is wonderful and I'm sure Dex comes in handy when doing yardwork.

I can feel the sun beating down! Good for him - and clever parents, cultivating this drive to mow!
